Utility discrete transistor audio amplifier

Like many, I've been guilty of lazily using an LM386 audio amplifier IC too many times. And it is alluring. There's few outboard parts and construction can be made quite compact. However if you want the best audio quality then there's much to be said for a discrete transistor amplifier teamed up with a medium sized speaker in a nice box. Build one like this and your homebrew receivers will never sound so good. I've built several of these and they've worked every time. It's based on a design from KE3IJ's website.
